IN & AROUND BLACKWATER
As you travel west on the Capricorn Highway from Rockhampton through Duaringa and Dingo you will come to the town of Blackwater. The highway continues on to Emerald and the outback towns of Barcaldine and Longreach. If you are travelling at night, the local mines light up the sky like a small town on their own.
The International Coal Centre in Blackwater gives visitors insight and understanding of the coal industry in the Bowen Basin that stretches from Collinsville north of Mackay to Theodore in the south. The local information centre, picnic area and Japanese Garden are also found here.
While Blackwater is primarily a mining town, the region has many unique and interesting places to visit.
JAPANESE GARDEN
The Japanese Gardens offer a serene place to relax, showcasing traditional Japanese garden styles.
BLACKDOWN TABLELAND
The park rises above the plains, featuring deep gorges, waterfalls, lookouts, and Ghungalu cultural sites.
